SUMMARY:Ten Percent More Engaged (Monthly BCD Group)
DESCRIPTION:BCD offers a monthly gathering for those who want to engage in mindful reflection and find practical ways to be more involved in making change happen. \nOur gatherings take place on the third Wednesday of each month from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. EST. \nWe start with a meditation\, after which we briefly share what came up for us. The bulk of the meeting is devoted to exploring ways in which we can be more involved and effective in reaching out and making change happen… in a way that is realistic and productive. \nA concrete example of the types of discussion we have is: How we can use social media more effectively individually and as a group. \nWe conduct our gatherings in a respectful\, supportive space that embodies our aspiration for mindfulness and democracy in action. \nThe gatherings are facilitated by Serge Prengel. \nTo register and receive monthly reminders of meetings\, click here: https://tinyurl.com/bcdengaged

SUMMARY:BCD Live Event: New Horizons in Engaged Buddhism: Host Julia Sagebien interviews Joshin Byrnes
DESCRIPTION:In this ninth episode in the New Horizons in Engaged Buddhism series\, host Julia Sagebien interviews Joshin Byrnes.  Joshin is a Zen priest and teacher at Bread Loaf Mountain Zen Community in Middlebury\, Vermont.  The Bread Loaf Mountain Zen Community is a hub of community-engaged Zen practice that is accessible to all. In addition to teaching meditation and dharma texts\, Joshin maintains a core practice of bearing witness and social action\, especially within economically marginalized communities. He guides the sangha\, offers dharma talks\, hosts the Infinite Circle program\, and holds street retreats and other bearing witness practices around the country. \nJoshin’s offerings are informed by his experience leading social change programs and nonprofits in the areas of HIV/AIDS\, such as Action Action Committee in Boston\, and the San Francisco AIDS Foundation. He also was the CEO and President of a number of community-based philanthropic organizations including The Vermont Community Foundation. Before starting Bread Loaf Mountain Zen Community he was the president\, vice abbot\, and chaplaincy training director at Upaya Zen Center in Santa Fe. Earlier in life\, Joshin studied philosophy and theology while he was a member of the Dominican Order\, a social-justice oriented Catholic mendicant religious community. He was also a conservatory-trained musician and musicologist. \nTo attend this live event\, click here: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/8246019794?pwd=wBClQIIZIA1hLkaiL8dzZyniJoQj0V.1&omn=85389547806 \n
